Who has used these during excercise? Any good? I'm interested in getting one to monitor my intensity in workouts, some added features like how many calories you burn is excellent. I'm looking into this model. Polar F6 Heart Rate Monitor any comments? Also any warnings or suggestions when buying one of these? I am a dedicated person when it comes to working out so I would be using it a lot, i just want to make sure I get the best equipment for my buck, I'm looking for something $150 and under

I have one, it depends the application and what info you require.

Its not worth spending lots if you only want to be informed when your heartbeat is in its fat burning zone.

You are also best to buy from ebay.com, I got mine from ebay.co.uk, just make sure you get EVERYTHING with it.

Well I know where to get them cheap I just want some info on the models and I like the features of this product, just seeing If anyone had some defects with it. I've heard of several heart rate monitors getting turned off at 45 minutes and needing to register it to the strap again.

I have never heard of one of these heart rate monitors loosing its transmission between each other??

You have to moisten the contact point where it straps to your chest, maybe they didn't do that first??

Gotcha, during the workout it stays moist obviously because we sweat ;-)

Not everyone sweats mate, and when the device is close to the skin (as mine is) sweat doesn't get under it where it needs to be moist.

I doubt that, when I work out there is not a spot on my clothes that isn't dry.

Nope I'm thinking of getting this one Polar F6 Heart Rate Monitor. looks like the best bang for my buck. It has some nice features, mainly I just wanted to know my heart rate but after looking further I learned that they can offer a lot. I'm a person who likes to pay the extra buck for the better product. why go cheap for a life investment? Everything I buy for fitness I make sure it is top of the line.

Polar are well renowed, you'd not go wrong. If you're a stat geek look further afield. Cateye make one that is HRM and cadence / bike computer.

Edit - also, look at the Garmain range - Forerunner 305 will read your HR and is GPS, with virtual training partner etc etc.

Edit 2 - Garmin not Garmain, sorry.

I already have a cateye product that tells me what I need to know for my bike rides. I'm just looking for a monitor for when I cycle yes, but other activities i'd like to use it for too as well. I don't know a lot about the target heart rate zone, is that the zone calculated by your age? and also isn't that where you burn the most fat?

You can work out your max based on the following:

220 - your age

e.g. I'm 30, so my Max is 190.

this is a rule of thumb - I hit 191 on a hill recently.

Your fat burning zone is 55% to 65% of your max. 65% to 85% is your cardio zone.

E.g.

I'm 20

Max = 200

Fat burning = 110 to 130
Cardio = 130 to 170

Personally i like to train upto 80%, although you can never count on how you feel - yesterday I went for a gentle run but it was hot, I was tired, probably slightly dehydrated, and hungry - my HR was 90% plus for most of the run - couldn't keep it down.

I have the Polar F6. Works fine. Never had any porblems with it. However, the chest strap batteries are only good for a certain number of hrs of use, and cannot be replace. You must by a new chest strap. I like the beep it makes when you're above or below your target heart rate.

Everyones fat burning zone is different, and these percentages of a persons MHR should only be taken as a very rough example.
