Hmmmm, I have noticed once that the points were awarded (well, awarded, the smileys appeared) after viewing the (finished) clan challenge page. I would say yes, but sense will probably say no.

You do not have to view the challenge to get the points, they are awarded automatically whenever the system gets around to it. However, you can speed up the process by looking at the challenge once it has reached its conclusion, and the points will be awarded.
