In game 124944 my opponent is claiming a draw after 3 moves the
same (31,33,35).
I am not certain of the application of this rule and I am in a strong
position in the game.
I have no reason to doubt him but I would prefer to hear someone
else's view as well.
I will happily comply with the rule once I am sure it applies in this
game
Thanks
John
John,I will send a game or two over in a few weeks, reducing gameload
at the moment.
Thanks for your sportmanship. You deserved more from the game.
I had a bitter experience with that rule.I play for a team over the
board. One year we were in a relegation battle, and i was watching the
end of a game that we were winning. We needed those points. It came
to time control, and i felt relief that we would be playing in that division
again the following year.Their player demonstrated that the same
position had occured 3 times with the same player to move and
claimed a draw.
Actually I wonder - that could make it easier for Russ to include
Just add a button that allows a person to "claim draw". RHP would then
automatically verify whether the claim was correct, 3 move repetition rule, or
50 move w/o capture/pawn move. IF correct, the draw is awarded.
I would imagine easier than having RHP code that constantly checked for draw
situations.
I agree that would make it easier perhaps, but...
The rules aren't simple! See:
-There are exceptions to the 50 moves rule (which I donot recall now)
-There is no "3 move repetition rule"! The rule is: a player can claim a
draw when the same position arises for the third time with the same
player to move and the same possibility's (think of a position in which
it is allowed to castle (or take en passant) and the same position in
which it is NOT allowed to castle (or take en passant) then you cannot
claim a draw!
In an on the board game claiming goes like this:
-stop the clock, call the arbiter and say something like this: "after my
opponent's move the same position has arisen for the third time. I
claim a draw.
Or:
-stop the clock, call the arbiter and say something like this: "after my
next move the same position will arise for the third time. I claim a
draw.
Then the arbiter has to judge the claim.
