It is definately a hoax. I have a BSc in Applied Physics and can confirm what KneverKnight said.

I was curious to what scientific research "Professor" Hans Peter Niesward carried out. Did a search on the name and promptly found this article:

Fair enough! We won't bother with that idea then.

What about if we took all the boats in the world out of the ocean. Would the drop in the sea level counter act the predicted rises through global warming?

Taking all the boats out of the ocean would lower the sea level, but it would be so small that there wouldn't be any noticable difference. Hence would also be a pointless task. 🙂

Yes, I've seen a hovercraft.

Now, you want the good news? The guy who invented the hovercraft (Chris Cockerell) thought about the sail, when he was a kid, and thought he was right, like you do, but the damn thing didn't budge an inch until he took the sail down... And then he realised the flaw in his theory.

Haven't you ever wondered why hovercraft don't have sails?

And finally the bad news. Those "Go faster stipes" don't work, either.

if everyone got as close to the equator as poss, on the east coast of africa, america and asia, and ran west (as far as they could before falling into the sea) the earth orbit would speed up, for a while at least. we'd have to subtract the additional air resistance factor of all of those runners, which would increase the athmospheric resistance to the rotation, to work it out. maybe we should sculpt the mountain ranges to make them more areodynamic?

I agree. But maybe instead we can make the day shorter.

Everyone go outside, face west, and run real hard. We will get it to spin faster and shorten the time from sunrise to the next sunrise.
Hahahaha, very funny🙂

last world jump day was in june 2006. and they failed then so how could they succeed this time? I need explanations.

Clearly everyone has failed to recognise the need to jump down instead of up for this experiment to have any chance of succeeding. I blame the gymnasiums.

I blame Newton and his darn Third Law of Motion.

Okay, folks, let's look at this. Suppose everybody on the planet weighed 100kg (which is an overestimate, 70kg is more like it, probably less). Suppose that there were ten billion people (another overestimate - there are about 6.4 billion at the time of writing). Suppose that they all jumped ten metres in the air (a huge overestimate, fifty centimetres ed from here: (Which lists real cool ways to destroy the Earth)

havent you heard of newtonian law? For every action there is an equal and oppisite reaction. That means it's true that the earth will move away from with the same froce that you jump, when gravity pulls ya back the earth will move back as well.

EDIT: Hmm i see i was beaten to it.
