Hello all,

I still have one bloody computer problem remaining and would be really greatful to receive some help ...

I'm running Windows XP Professional (latest version, all updates). I've got a 1394 Lacie external Big Disk (HDD) ...

When I switch this beauty on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' recognises the drive, yet I can't see it ... I have tested the drive on another laptop and it works perfect there (no issues whatsoever) ... So given that the drive is NOT broken and given that I have another Lace Big disk that works with the fire-wire card I have I am a little out of options ...

Anyone a computer wizzard here who could help me ?

Many thanks
Boris

I had this happen with a few things in the past, it generally seems that re-installing drivers solves the rpoblem although I've never had an external HDD, do they even have drivers? Also, since you are already running another HDD through firewire, I doubt this could be the problem so basically.....

I'm stumped.

Can you see the HDD in the device manager?
Does it appear as a yellow '?'
Have you ever run two external drives concurrently before?

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think most fire-wire things don't need drivers. (well-drivers that you install...)

you mgiht have a problem with it's power - if it's a big drive, you mgiht need to have it plugged into two fire-wire ports, or into the mains. but pretty much i don't know and...yeah...

Or if you aren't rich, just install Linux and be done with all of your problems. 😀
