I'm 51. My daughter is 26. Last night I dreamed that my daughter was about 5. My dream said that I was on about a the 4th floor of some building. Mu daughter sat upon the top of a railing (she is really 26), and I said look out but she fell..no kidding..and I rushed down below and gave her mouth to mouth but to no avail.. I have been trying to figure this one out but no....why in Christ's name must I dream that my daughter dies like this? I don't get it and it torments me.

It's probably a good place to start. You'd probably want something more modern on the topic of dreams and their importance in relation to psychology and your life than Freud. I'd offer help -- I'm probably going to major in Psychology -- but I haven't got to college yet...try google.

Check out dreammoods.com, there you can find things like:

Quote: To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain aspect or quality that the loved one embodies. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about him. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances. Alternatively, it indicates that whatever that person represents has no part in your own life. Unquote

they mean that's something bothering him for now... dreams like this are most times reflexes from what's happening in our life.

Are you and your daughter mad at each other? did you have a fight lately. not a big deal, just a heated argument... i would say that your dream reveals the fear of reconcilation between both of you before one of you dies...

Why did she died in your dream and not you? i think because that way you would have to live in pain knowing that she passed and you were mad about each other. Something like a punishment for you...

...

Don't really know... I would have to know you to analyze your dream..

This is more common than you may think. Is your daughter single? Perhaps living by herself in a far away city? Perhaps this is showing your fear and worry and concern that something bad may happen to her while you are too far away to prevent it. The fact that she was 5 in your dream shows that perhaps you still think of her as your little girl and that is also why your concern for her safety is a big issue for you. I would also suggest that this is showing up in your dream state because you don't have much of an outlet to show her how you feel. Perhaps she always tells you, "come on, dad, don't worry", and you hold that in so that she doesn't see your concern.

Just a stab in the dark.

It might be that she is of an age now where she is independant and you want that little girl back to protect from the world, she is like a butterfly losing her cocoon and entering into the world on her own two feet...

this sounds very similar to empty nest syndrome to me...
