I just noticed that on the RHP home page it now says it is a community with over 100,000 members! It used to only be about 75,000 members!

Congragelations, RHP, on becoming an even more popular and successful site!

Looks like throwing off the cheats and multiple account users really crippled the site , huh ?

No, the site got BETTER, not worse. I said they got more members; so it was probably something that made the site more successful.

Edit: Wait, were you being sarcastic?

It's all just numbers anyway. There's a thing somewhere that most of them are manipulated. I saw it quoted on an advert once (it must be true - 98% of all adverts speak the truth!)

Take a look at this for example...

http://www.timeforchess.com/core/playertable.php?col=3&state=desc&buttonno=-1

100,000 members but less than 8,500 made a move in the last 100 days.

The honest* approach would be to advertise '8000+ active members', but this is not nearly as much a draw as '100,000 members' might be to someone who was purely interested in the popularity of the site.

It's all about Marketing you see...

Edit: *the 100,000 claim is not dishonest, it just includes inactive members.

That's not true. Players with provisional ratings are not included in the "highest rating" table where you got the 8500 from.

But if you look at one of the other tables (ie MAP), you will see that over 25500 players have moved in the last 100 days.

Over 180,000 people have signed up in the past, but not all have verified email addresses, some never went on to make a move, that kind of thing.

So, that figure on the homepage is fairly meaningless, to be honest.

What if you took members who have been active over the last month. Could you give us that number?

Good point!

Still not 100,000 though... see Russ's reply too!
