You are not happy with the results, I take it? 😛

It's harder to accept change when you get older, I know. But with change comes progress and some of us embrace it and don't look back so much.
Historical perspective only... on how we started out as a republic, on the inevitability of the dialectic of gradual change over the past two

prosperous centuries and on the current state of affairs and likely short/long term outcome. Nothing subjective. Just felt free to reflect.

Point of view is everything. To some of us, the "narrow, elitist oligarchy" is the bunch that just got voted out as well as the outgoing president and cabinet.

Do you honestly believe that you can divide the voters between property owners and those who want hand-outs? If you truly, deep down inside think everyone who voted for Obama is looking for ...[text shortened]... If I'm as close to Mexico as she is to Russia, does that mean I'm as qualified as she is?
Understand and appreciate your point of view. Much of it aligns with my own. Founding fathers stipulated that the franchise be responsibility

based, never advocating that it should be extended to vagrants using park benches as addresses. It's not about personalities but principle.

There you go again, Sunburnt, getting all emotional. Try thinking without vibrating. Stop. Shift into neutral. Listen before tooting your horn.

Historical trends actually begin in our thinking. What we are seeing are the manifestations of our collective souls. They can be negative or positive based on our understanding of certain basic principles.Sound establishment and spiritual doctrines that are neglected lead to negative manifestations and the ultimate destruction of our country. A positive attitude to these principles that have guided our country for many generations will result in blessing not only to ourselves but to our country as well. It is tragic to see the lack of virtue and sound thinking rampant in our country today. Our only hope is in the renewing of our collective thinking based on these spiritual and establishment truths.

That's a rather interesting chauvinist response. Typical.

Our Founding Fathers in their wisdom established a countervailing balance of power. Circumstantially, our 2008 presidential/congressional

election now confers an incredible vestige of power to a narrow elitist oligarchy. Freedom-authority = anarchy. Authority-freedom = tyranny.

Look for early signs once the pleasantr ...[text shortened]... tion and the false overtures of ceremony have concluded. Nancy and Harry rule the day.

I'd rather look at it as a chance to roll up the sleeves and finally get something done in America instead of being held back by the whiny, self-serving, status-quo-loving GOP.

It's time to get to work. Too bad we have to wait until these people are put in office, giving the GOP plenty of time to polish their obstructionist plans.

Just an ordinary guy speaking plainly, without the least ulterior motive, to a popular member/poster whom many others play up to and

kid glove. Whenever I'm thinking about my family in New England I often also think of Duecer, MtDewd, HandyAndy, Phlabibit and you.

I don't see how that is a "chauvinist" response.

What's your view regarding the diminished role of checks and balances for the forseeable future?

The checks and balances were firmly in place when the republicans gutted the regulations in the banking industry, causing our current financial problems. Checks and balances are not the "end all, be all" you assume them to be. The republicans have obstructed any work being done in the House for the last two years. What we're seeing now is the checks and balances in the system being applied. When obstructionists stand in the way of any real progress being made, the checks and balances allow us to take them out of office and replace them with people who aren't afraid to get the job done.
