It was stamma in 1737 first introduced the modern notation. But was only popularised by philidor. I have books still available by H Staunton ( who standardised chess sets ) with games going back to the 16th century. If anyone wishes to view games , by the likes of Murphy Steinitz Lasker Petroff Philidor Alekhine Botvinnik Capablanca Reshevsky etc. Iwill put more on chess only site as ive done with Max Lange if anyone has a comment please use my name to message me
