No, and neither do black Britons refer to themselves in that way ~ but they do self-identify as black.
Yes I know and personally I find it absurd and demeaning and offensive.

Tell your black friends about it. And tell them about Mrs Marples as well. 😕

I do and I never refer to them as black and I would certainly have qualms about them self identifying as black, its absurd and I have told them so. They are West Indian or Jamaican, they are not black, the idea is preposterous.

"I have told them so"? Who have you told and what did you tell them?

That i find the term black to be demeaning and offensive and I would rather that it was not used.

OK, now we've got that out of the way, how about these questions?

If there were a similar incident to the one you claim you had with the rude English people in the minibus in Glasgow, and it happened in Jakarta with Indonesians, what would it have told you about "the Indonesians"?

And what if the rude people in the minibus were ethnic Chinese? What would it have told you about "the Chinese"?

And what would you have extrapolated about the Indonesians or the Chinese if the minibus people had been Indonesians or Chinese?

It wasn't Chinese or Indonesians it was ill bred churlish Geordie lager louts and what they did went beyond rude. I would not expect Chinese or Indonesians to behave with such disregard for common decency, only a nation like England could produce such riff raff.

Where did you get your stereotypes of Indonesians and Chinese from?

The Chinese that I have known have been very gentle people, two physicists who live near my home and a doctor, as well as a young women when I was studying art and design who took a shine to me, we exchanged gifts and things and I gave her my classical nylon strung guitar, The only Indonesians I have met were Jehovahs Witnesses with the exception of one or two students, they were also very gentle people.

So your stereotypes are based on knowing just a couple of people in both cases?

How many people (i.e. the ones I have referred to as black) have you told about how you find the way they self-identify offensive, and what did they say?

All scoring a one hundred percent on the gentility scale. Space would evade us if I mentioned all the Chinese that I have met in China town, at my local restaurant, takeaway shop etc There is also a Chinese congregation in Glasgow, all beautiful gentle people!
