I'd advise not using Outlook at all, it's FAR more complicated than it needs to be.

Get a better Mail Client like Mozilla Thunderbird for example

You forgot SAFER too. And this is more important.

Mail is send from one server to another using some mail protocol. Your computer is normally not running a mail-server. So your client has to connect to a server to get the mail. The wizard asks you to identify this server. You shoul probably look up the gmail help to see the server identification as pop-server.

And no I don't know exactly, I never used gmail...

Probably something along these lines...

POP3 Server Name: pop.gmail.com
POP3 Server Port: 110 or 995
Incoming server requires authentication: Check box
SMTP Server Name: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Server Port: 25 or 465
Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication: Check box
E-mail Address: YourGmailAddress@gmail.com
Username: YourGmailAddress@gmail.com
Password: Gmail Password

i had numerous issues with pop access to gmail recently.

i'm not sure if it's related to the recent name infringement case, but solved it by changing the server names to pop.googlemail.com and smtp.googlemail.com
