The last thread on page 10 (which, because I started this thread, has disappeared) was started by me. It was in tribute to kirksey957's birthday.
September 8, 2003, was the date that it was created.
Here it is October 23, 2003, and it's already gone!
This made me think of several different things:
- Through looking at many of the old threads, I've found that many (like this one) are made for basically no reason! Some have substance and are interesting, but a lot of them are just made maybe because someone is bored or wants to annoy others. I admit that I do this, but not for these reasons. Here is my point: When making a thread, please do not create it if you are the only person that will take interest in it. Throughout the last few months, I've done this a few times, and am apologizing for it right now! I'm hoping to lead everyone in this direction!
EDIT! After reading this section of my post, it kinda sounds like I'm telling people to stop posting, but that's not what I'm trying to say at all (after all, the forums where created so people could communicate and get to know each other!!). It was mostly created as my apology to the community.
- Here is another point, which is actually a question. What happens to the threads after the go past the 10th page. Are they moderated? Are the posts they contain still elligible to come up when you Search Forums? I'm just curious. Any answers, help, or comments will be greatly appreciated.

You can post it on the <Meet Opponents> Forum
It lasts longer there !

it last's longer because nobody reads that forum, which kind of defeats the point of wanting your thread to be seen

If you really want to keep your thread on page1 then you could 'bump' it to the top by replying to it yourself.

But bear in mind that there is a 'natural' selection' to threads - those that are of most interest to people get more posts & stay on page 1. When there is no more interest then it 'dies' onto lower pages. If everyone bumps their own threads then we lose this selection, so only use it when you feel a thread had been knocked off page 1 before anyone had chance to notice it & get interested.

IMHO

How long will this thread last ?

probably as old as the hills...but seriously, if it gets posted in the Meet Opponents section, when it should be posted under something else, it might get deleted. Right Russ?

Just for fun I sometimes change the thread id number to a random number to see what come up. If you change the 7255 in this thread to 1 you will see who was involved in the first thread of this forum... 😉

Numbers 2-5 don't seem to be there (moderated?) but number 6 is still there waiting to be read.

Rhymester

PS. If you do this you must also make a great effort NOT to reply to really OLD threads... some things are best forgotten...

(i know uncleadam adam and tony are...). but if you'll check, the first few games are also missing...this was discussed aaaaaaaaages ago (the games that is), but i'm sure chris or russ'll have the answer...maybe...perhaps...
