Well there is a utility which can help called siw.exe and runs under Windows. I think I originally got this at www.tucows.com, but here's a link for it: http://www.bysoft.com/freeware/Gabriel_Topala_SIW_1_48_407.htm .
You could also used SystemRescueCD (fits on a mini CD and is bootable to help if you want to go that way). .iso is available on at: http://www.sysresccd.org/ and it has a utilitu called aida which can tell you a lot about a system. This is actually a handy CD to have around when you have PC problems, but the BIOS needs to be set to enable CD booting.
That's a few ways to get probably more information than you will need.
