Funny that, seeing as how it's a business and all.
It's actually the best chess site I've seen so far. But it seems strange to charge for such a thing as recommendations in forum threads. Most players aren't even in the forums, and since some of the threads is clearly way off the topic of chess, outsiders not playing chess might want to join in on the discussions. More visitors means more banners, equals more money to the moneymaker.
But that's just me. I probably will subscribe ones x-mas is a few months past me and my economy has recovered once again. I'm such a slob with money, though.

If you've been here long enough, you accumulate them no matter what you do. Subscribing is well worth it, the clans, tournaments and private forums are just extra joy on top of the quality of the site itself and the community at large.

Originally posted by stockenI don't think its a purely financial consideration to not have non-subs able to rec. A system where non-subs can rec is open to exploitation, with kids setting up multiple accounts, purely so they can rec themselves. Same situation with alerts.
