Hurricane Dorian gained strength in the Atlantic Wednesday night, and millions of people in Florida were warned to be ready for its impact. "Strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane on Friday, and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through the weekend," the National Hurricane Center said Thursday morning.
Dorian could be a Category 4 storm when it makes landfall Monday, CBS News weather producer David Parkinson reports. The storm could have maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.
Landfall could happen anywhere along Florida's Atlantic coast, Parkinson reports. The storm rolled over the Virgin Islands Wednesday, hitting St. Thomas with wind gusts of up to 100 mph.
@very-rusty saidFriend just bought a new place in Fl. close to the water in Merritt Island. His place has a big X on the roof right now. Could be a Cat 4

@very-rusty saidPut up in your attic a painting of the young tropical storm. That way the painting can age and get stronger, instead of the actual storm.

@Suzianne
My brother in law has a condo right on the beach in West Palm. And his beach looks like hell already, a boat landing destroyed, the waves now lapping up within 20 feet of his condo, it just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.
I just hope he heeds the evacuations if and when they come.
It is still not clear where that dam storm is going to hit.
For on thing, it is doing about half the speed of others that have hit and that means, cat 3, cat 1, or just tropical storm, it will slowly pulverize the land with flooding. THAT will be the real damage done by that storm, not so much the wind.
@very-rusty saidIsn't there a storm (Erin) heading "your way"?

@great-big-stees saidThat is correct, but rather we will get it or not is in question.

They sometimes will go off of the Atlantic ocean and we just wind up with some strong winds and heavy rain, sometimes some flooding in certain areas but so far not where I live.
