I think it gets misdiagnosed as Parkinson's a lot with similair symptoms. It is most likely a demylination disease but i am too lazy right now to google it.
Do you know what progressive supranuclear palsy is?
'Cos I thought it was something to do with the war.
No idea what this has to do with the thread though

Males say things like (but not limited to) steal the sulfuric acid from the science lab and the females say things like tell a teacher you're horny (this is actually a better thing of what they dare us to do)
I think anything done when being dared to by females should be striken from the record.
That's why you here a lot of "WUSS" in my town.
Originally posted by WildfireIt hasn't been shown that creutzfeldt-jakobs is caused by prions. There is actually a lot of debate about that. Some think it is a slow acting virus. A lot of things fit it being caused by prions, but the fact that there seem to be different "strains" supports the virus idea. I am pretty sure neither prions nor viruses have been conclusivly shown to cause it. So it may or may not be like human mad-cow.
Consider it the human form of Mad Cow Disease. It affects the brain and slowly degenerates it until you die.
Okay, so now I've done a bit of research and not just going from memory.
So, the CDC does say that classic CJD is caused by prions although I was sure I read somewhere repudable that there was controversy over that. Classic CJD isn't related to mad cow, variant CJD, vCJD, is.
The classic CJD happens sporadically when normal prions randomly mutate into disease causing ones. A small minority of the cases are inherited, but most are just new mutations. It basically only affects the elderly.
vCJD could be called human mad cow. Mean age is 28. Kills in about a year. This is definitely caused by prions, Probably often from infected cattle. The random mutations happen in cattle, then are spread from the eating cow brains thing the news makes a big deal of.
The CDC talks about genes for the prion mutations in classic VJD, but I feel sure there was more controversy. I'll run a database check and report back, not that anyone probalby cares.
