I celebrate...
I celebrate small children running across the play yards full of enthusiasm... telephone calls when a real persons answers...
ice cream and the emperor of ice cream... all of the sung and unsung pioneers and heroes who achieved greatness in their
chosen fields... slender blades of grass smiling their way through invisible passageways in the pavement... brutal honesty.

What do you celebrate?
...days when the sunshine is out
...whenever my partner is happy and smiling
...life (whatever it may throw my way)

top of the list of things you celebrate as a human being? Oh, my goodness. How impoverished. Well, as to the quintessence of feminine
pulchritude, for me it's about symmetry. Mental and emotional furniture well arranged. Cheekbones and ankles matter. All else is frosting.
Today is 33 years that I first caught sight of my wife. What?....You want the whole story?...Oh I don't want to bore you.... Well, ok, if you insist.
Spring of 1976 (yes, I know, ancient history. 😠). The Moose is a young airman stationed at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. Each April San Antonio holds a ten day city-wide celebration just known collectively as Fiesta. A buddy of mine and I have been hitting the Fiesta events pretty heavy since many of them consist of how much fried food/beer you can consume before attracting the attention of the local law enforcement and how many pretty girls you can talk to before you find one who doesn't laugh at your military haircut.
It's Friday night and we are hanging out at a large open-air dance drinking Colorado Kool-Aid (Coors beer) and watching the dancers and the world go by. THEN....
Across the dance floor, there she was! Knocked me off my feet at first sight. Black hair, dark eyes, and skin colored like coffee, wow. And she had a friend with her for my buddy to pair up with. We discussed the situation and had a few more cans of liquid courage before making our play. Sadly, about the time we were ready to put our best move on the ladies, they turned and left.
Back in the barracks, I kicked myself for not acting sooner. Since the next night was the last night of Fiesta, I told my buddy that I was going back downtown on Saturday and find her again. He pointed out that the closing Saturday night had the Fiesta Flambeau night parade and about 350,000 people showed up to watch it and good luck finding her in that crowd. But I was not to be detered!
Saturday night and I'm pushing my way through the biggest crowd I had ever seen. I'm getting more discouraged by the minute. Hell, she could be right across the street and I would never spot her with these thousands of people milling around. And thank God for those crowds. For, because of the crowds, she had climbed up on the base of a lamppost to get a better view of the parade. She stood out like a beautiful lighthouse. This night I didn't waste time. I tapped her on the shoulder..."Excuse me senorita?".....
And so I celebrate that night 33 years ago and my wife Elizabeth Caballero.
