you can't see where you're going, nor do you get any idea what kind of a file you're trying to open. it also almost never really makes a difference how long an url is. if it's clickable, you click it, if not, copy&pasting a 25 character url takes exactly the same time as a 150 char url.
I never even bother to open tinyurls without a clear description.
