Well, I found it amusing. About the crisis in the US right now, and how
Volvo (who's biggest market is the US) has reached a new low in
their sales.
That's obviously not the funny part. But in this program they interviewed
an American who seemed knowledgeable enough, until they asked him
why he won't buy a Volvo right now. He answered: "It's more of a luxury
car and not the kind I need just to get me to and from work everyday",
or something to that extent.

😵
Luxury car!? Volvo!? I don't know what kind of Volvo they sell over there
in the US, but here in Sweden they're family cars. Granted, they're nice
cars, but luxury!? HA ha ha ha!
Oh, man. I had a good laugh there.
😕
Wait! Is Volvo cheating on us Swedes? 😕🙁😠

brand new cars), isn't it? Except for the safety features, of course.
They mentioned something about most Americans now wanting to try
environmental cars (ethanol or hybrid), and Volvo apparently haven't done
a lot on that front until just recently.
Interesting.

Does Volvo have something like a Honda Accord, Geo Metro or Toyota Tercel? Those are the sorts of low end reliable cars I am familiar with. Of course the Tercel is no longer being made, but still.
Volvos does have a lot of features that you can choose to go with them, but
I do believe that a Volvo V50 without all the extras might be comparable to
the type of cars you mention.
But I wouldn't take my word for it, if I were you. 🙂

The Volvo S40, V40 and V50 are compact executive cars produced by Volvo Cars. There have been two generations, the first launched in 1995 and the second one in 2004. The latter is listed by Forbes as one of the best luxury cars for young affluent drivers.

V70 is also very popular among families in the standard delivery. Again, so
I thought. Seems I haven't kept up very well lately. 😵
Thanks.

A few years ago before I graduated college I did construction work for a boss who liked to feed of the rich. Almost all of them had luxury type volvo's.
So the original post is very, very, very not funny. It was a hell of an effort though.

Yes, it's always been possible to include features to the point of luxury,
but in standard delivery Volvo has always been affordable and quite low
end.

Well, excuuuuuuse me. 😵
Geez, relax man.
Sorry to burst your bubble, jig, but if the Volvo cannot be techincally classified as luxury, it certainly projects that image (though family oriented, as you mention).
Swedes make 3 things good:
(a) Volvos
(b) Beautiful women who know how to make love
(c) Beautiful women who don't know how to make love, but who gives a damn about their knowledge anyway!
Best regards,
Seitse

I guess when I think luxury, I'm thinking Mercedes and the like. Volvo is
hardly a Mercedes. Is it? BMW? Apparently they are comparable. I grew up
with Volvos all over the place, and I grew up real poor (for a Swede, mind you! 😵 ).
I just can't get the image of Volvo being cheap and simple out of my head.
Reliable and safe cars, yes, but... oh, never mind. 😵
