I caved and had one already after work. how the hell are you supposed to quit these damned things?!!!!!!
The way I quit? A friend shamed me into to it after a failed attempt. He called me an f'in backslider. Never had another after that. It's been many years free of those nasty things. My father died of emphysema contracted from smoking. It's a long. slow, crappy way to die.

perhaps you need to cut down on smoking to begin with.
Maybe allow yourself 1 or 2 smokes a day,if you dont smoke 1 or 2 ,HEY! great . If you smoke 1 or 2 then you are still slowing it down to a level that is within your rules.
I am a smoker also and i have never been able to quit.
Good luck to you sir,it is a commendable thing and also tough.

Alternatively you could Paypal me $10 every time you have a cigarette and I will have a nice holiday on you. I will send some pictures of me enjoying myself in some far flung, sunny place at your expense.
🙂
Good luck in your quest to quit smoking. I quit about 15 years ago and I know it’s not easy. If you can’t quit cold turkey maybe this gradual approach will help. It worked for me. Start by choosing one place in your home where you WILL NOT SMOKE! Call it a personal ‘no smoking zone’ By all means keep your smoking to a minimum everywhere, but in this one place there’s NO SMOKING AT ALL EVER AGAIN! Your bedroom is a good place to start since your shouldn’t be smoking there anyway, or perhaps the kitchen. No matter. The idea is to make smoking a little less convenient and routine. When you’re in this zone and you get the urge, force yourself to go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Then gradually begin to expend this personal no smoking zone. First the bedroom and the kitchen then the TV room and the library and finally the bathroom and the front porch. Trust me…Standing outside your front door on a rainy winter night takes all the pleasure out of smoking. How long your zone remains at any particular size is up to you but don’t go too fast. It took me about six months before my entire home was my ‘no smoking zone.’ The beauty of the method is you don’t have to deny yourself the pleasure and satisfaction of smoking; you only have to delay it. And the natural consequence is that your expanding no smoking zone forces you to postpone that next cigarette and you are slowly but surely smoking fewer and fewer until you are ready to quit completely. List a dozen places where you smoke and add one to you zone every two weeks. In six months when you find yourself smoking two or three a day and you’ll be ready to quit.
Another important thing to remember is that after you’ve quit, having an occasional cigarette does NOT constitute failure! You’re only human and what you’re doing is not easy. Just because you have your first cigarette in three weeks doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Don’t let a moment of weakness cascade out of control. It took six months to get cigarettes out of my house and over a year to get them out of my life. And last but not least… most of us are surrounded by people that love to see us fail. Ignore the bastards and don’t give em the satisfaction.
C'mon you can do it!
I did it after 15 years. Cigarettes were my best friend.
I thought:
How can I quit?
Waht would I do when I got bored?
How would I ever get a break from work?
How would I ever calm down?
How would I relax at work?
I feel naked without a lighter!
Why should I quit?
I enjoy it. Sure I might die a year or two earlier, but atleast I get to spend my life doing something I enjoy and how good is life at 86 anyhow?
Then I had a dramatic medical probelm with my breathing at 32! I'm not a big fat sedintary guy. I might be a little overweight, but I'm in the military and workout atleast three time a week. All the sudden I'm blacking out! How could I drive a car again? What if I black out while driving my family?
I went to the doctor...His response? Yea, you have cough syncope. What's the medicine?! What's the cure? What can you give me so I stop??
There isn't one. You can stop smoking and it might go away, but there's no promise.
I've been smoke free since Nov 28th and haven't blacked out since Dec 6th.
It's the best the I ever did. I don't need cigarettes anymore because I don't get all nervous and worked up anymore (it's cigarettes that make you feel like you need one to relax). I got used to not having a lighter and not going outside.
Once you get over it, it really is a thousand times better as a non-smoker.
Two big things really helped me: Gum (nicorette then regular) and my co-worker. I told him that I quit. He asked "how long?". I said "two days". He laughed and said "you haven't really quit, you just haven't smoked for a few days!". Pissed me off enough that it was my main motivation when I felt like having one.
I guess I rambled on there a bit. But, you can do it and it really is worth it!
thanx for the support, well most of you gave support 😛 Its a lot harder than i thought it would be, i havn't been able to break my routine yet. Its so much more of a habit than an addiction for me, i smoke pretty much at the same times in the same places, especially my commute to work. but thanx for the input and support, i will certainly try
