Anything I need to watch out for?

I want a compact with good gas mileage, less than $25k with everything (so I don't want a $24,343 vehicle which will then go up in price when I need to consider the variables like features or whatever)

Where are you? ... what country I mean?

New or Used?

Toyotas are very good cars, but if you are buying used, you should make sure it is in reasonable condition by having a mechanic check it out before you buy it...that is if you are buying from a 3rd party. If you are buying from a dealership, there is usually a limited warranty.

I have a 2007 Corrolla...gets aroun 35 mph and I've been very happy with it.

I had an echo. very good car, did me rather well.
Till I got rolled over by a stupid suv, landed right on top of it.
Even then it managed to keep me alive. Cheap on gas and had some good pep. Easy to fix and there a good company.

Travel like I do everyday, with style and distinction: in a really long vehicle with a driver

It's called public transport 😏

Los Angeles, probably 2-3 years old, ~20k miles, compact, something like the old Toyota Tercels.

Slow, doesn't work at night, low flexibility, gotta wait on the corner without leaving...lots of problems with relying on public transportation. I love it, but I can't rely on it.

When I go to buy the car I'll probably do it on public transportation.

I don't think they make Tercels anymore, do they?? The Yaris is a nice looking car though. I think it is the Tercel replacement?

No, they don't, but I can't remember which of the current models are which in the food chain of price and luxury. Yari? I'll check it out.

EDIT - Hmm, maybe something one step higher. Corolla? Is that the next one up?

Yaris is a little smaller than the Corolla but not much. It is a little sportier looking in my opinion. I was a little reluctant to buy it because it is a newer model and I'm a bit stodgy when it comes to spending that much money... I prefer the repeat models and check the consumer reports on past models....

Tough to go wrong quality wise thought with a Toyota so I'm sure the Yaris is ok on that front.

Yaris look like my old Geo Metro, and the Tercel was apparently a Corolla variant. Camrys look to be a little too high end, so I'll probably go with a 2006 Corolla or something like that.

What sort of price should I try to get? How should I handle features? I want AC, power windows, and other goodies, but I hear the dealership will ream you if you buy them there. How hard is it to upgrade the car outside the dealership?

Is there any point in doing this for a used car?
