I was simply trying to point out in all this squabbling over subs vs. non subs that sometimes it boils down to more than just "get a subscription".

It's great for those who can afford it and benifit from the extra perks; there's also alot of people who simply can't justify the few extra perks over the necessities of life.

Everyones situation here is unique unto themselves.

It shouldn't matter one way or another if a person chooses to subscribe or not. If someone, somewhere is a little bit better off for playing a few games of chess and reaching out to people via the forums then what does it really matter?

I thought it was a correspondance chess site not an RHP infomercial.

If you`re happy with 6 games, why bother. Admittedly subscribing does have it`s advantages, NO ADDs for one 😉. Clans and tourneys are ok and can be fun, but.................................

Well said. Everyone's got different priorities. Mine appear to involve spending ridiculous amounts of time glued to this site, but there's no reason why I should insist that yours are the same.

And it also DOESN'T mean that you have no right to express your views about how the site operates. I always found 'you should subscribe' to be a particularly weak response to any argument presented by a non-subscriber.

When I first joined here about 6 months ago the initial excitment nearly made me subscribe. But after spending some time here and after the content posted by the users the excitment died away along with the compulsion to join.

let the cat eat birds man, it's the law of the jungle. now you sound like a busy dude with family committments why the hell would you want to play more than 6 games at a time , anyway?

theres no stigma attached to being a non member only the make believe one that some members try to perpetuate.it's the "club" mentality, a need to belong to something to give themselves perceived status. for those members it's all about insecurity. some of these dudes have a hundred games going at once! do you really think those guys have any life out side of RHP? they are sad sacks dude, do not believe their drivel

groucho marx once said " i wouldn't want to belong to a club that would want me as a member". RHP makes zillions in advertizing revenue because non subscibers generate thousands of hits a day on the site. we make more money for the site than members fees generate by our very presence

save you're membership dough dude and spend it on ya kiddies.

I very much doubt 'zillions' are being made. Money is mostly made when people actually click on ads, not just watch the crazy frog ride on his motorbike...

i was just making a point using zillions. it's figurative

At this point, I would say that you have your hands full. just take it slowly at a time and man, way to go. Your priorities come first.🙂

I don't know about anyone else, but I feel it's the people on this site that are always willing to speak out with a kind word and sincere heart that makes it worth coming back again and again.

Everyone comments on the addictive nature of RHP and I personally believe it to be a direct result of all the many good people who post here. And yes even those not so good people who always seem to take the flack but never fail to entertain.

It's this combination of acceptance and endearment that gives RHP it's addictive quality. I have had the pleasure of meeting some truly wonderfull people and having some really great conversations with people I would never have gotten to know any other way except for this site.

It would have been a great loss to myself if denied this opportunity due to something as trivial as money.

Any extra dollars I manage to scrounge up will always be spent on my children, who deserve much more than I have to give them.

And who knows.....someday I may even learn how to play chess 😉😛😀

Amen to that. You have just made a very good point there.🙂

I recognize that your point was figurative but:

RHP is not making a fortune. Russ has a real life job and a family. This site is not allowing him to cease his other employment to dedicate himself to us. This is a another full time job as adminstrator, programer and parent to us. Consider the various disciplining strategys he has had to develop to keep us from burning the house down. It seems to me that no matter what neat new feature he gives us, there is always another toy we want. All the "help" he gets is voluntary.

If you want to subscribe and can, then do so. If you do not subscribe and you do post in the forums there will be the occasional jibe or goad or comment. Get used to it or don't post in the forums. Anyone who posts in the forums takes the risk that there will be a response whether you like the response or not.

I like how you know what every members life is like . How they're all losers with nothing better to do . You must be psychic !

read what i said alittle closer dude. i said SOME members not EVERY member. and just where in my post did i state that members were losers? i think you may be a tad paranoid, you're reading things that aren't there. if you got 100 games going at one time just how much time do you think you'd be spending in front of a computer screen to play them all?

so what prompts you to goad . jibe, or comment t when a non subscriber posts, that they've written something at all or the fact that they are non subscribers?

if it's the latter which i think it is by how you've written your post then that's just shallow and purile .

frankly, i don't care about russ's financials but you certainly know a fair bit about them, so the next trime you're doung his book work ask him why he lets dirty rotten non subscribers play on his site, and the answer i believe will be advertizing revenue!
