...which would it have been? not which film do you wish you had directed, but the film that if yu were to sit down and write you would be most likely to come up with. they one that, you know, most represents you as a person. although i think that's a bit too cheesy...
i think i would have directed "Grosse Pointe Blank". the houmers pretty much straight on like mine, although as to representing me as a person. well, i'm not an assassin, to be perfectly honest with you. although i do like they way they dress...

Blade Runner.
The dark, pessimistic vision of the future seems a lot more real than the utopia of Star Trek and other Sci Fi.
I love the way the film was shot.
And the artwork created the whole genre of cyberpunk.
Yes, my film would be a box-office flop, but a cult classic.
There's an episode of ds9 where a character defects to the maquis and he has a great monologue about the reason the federation hates them so.
Mostly it boils down to he fact that the federation is aghast that anyone would want to leave "paradise". The ferengi bartender explains it similiar also. The federation is like a disease all bubbly and coy, but it overtakes and assimiliates much worse then the borg.
I'll have to look up these monologues for you. If you watch ds9, which most will say is the worst trek, you'll notice the characters are'nt perfect and the world they live in is more realistic.
O yeah, for a movie : The fifth element.
Originally posted by NyxieI agree with you on DS9, I'm working my way through the DVD sets at the moment.

It's certainly less Utopian than TNG or the original.
I think they were running scared, trying to compete with Babylon 5.
5th Element rocks too: having Jean-Paul Gaultier design the costumes was a stroke of genius!

The vision of the future in fifth element speaks to me better then most other films. I also love the way an opera piece was worked into the film. This is something I would try to do. The whole soundtrack actually works with this film imho.
Either something dark with great intense music, lots of shadows and an olde worldy kinda feeling about it like Dracula (though obviously keeping only Gary Oldman and binning all the other characters. Or Romeo and Juliet with the same cast except I'd replace Leonardo Di Crapio with myself and bear the terrible burden of having to kiss Clare Danes.
