Fair point, but does that mean that anyone who's rating gets better quickly should be banned?
Going from a 1200 player with a long history of sucking to 2100 with a enormous string of no losses against good players is generally a good indication, yes.

If that is the way then that is cool, all I know is from what I "knew" of the guy he had become a chess-nut (groan!) and lets face it we all have a hobby!

I have asked for feedback as to why he was banned and will let you know if I hear anything.

Oh and if he turns out to be a grandmaster who slates this site .....

You can probably crush anyone walking down the street, as long as they've never played the game.

99% of the people you meet who say they play chess actually mean that they barely know how the pieces move. NooBs who beat everyone in their casual circle of such players because they have a small amount of talent for the game think it's because they're some sort of undiscovered grand masterix or something. Then they go to a real tournament and discover just how much they suck against serious players, even low rated ones.

I can't count the number of times I've run into people who said they played chess and claimed they were "really good" because they beat all their friends, then did some squirrely thing in the opening like move their "a" and "h" pawns to bring their rooks out.

It's comparable to someone who lobs tennis balls back and forth in high school PE and can beat everyone thinking that they could enter a professional tennis tournament and do well.
