...and don't know how to find information about how tournaments work. Can anyone tell me where to find some info, or is it a case of just joining a tournament and learning "on-the-fly"?
Originally posted by rbmorrisActually, I have done that, but I'm trying to figure out if the tournaments are a round-robin style, single knock-out, or is there some other standard in the Chess community that I don't know about.

Originally posted by Red NightThanks for welcoming me. I appreciate it. But now that I am a subscriber, I will dare to defend non-subscribers (since I was one for 6 months).
Welcome smomofo
I have read in the forums non-subscribers being referred to as many things, such as "scum", "free-loaders", and "cheap bastards". Some subscribers have also suggested that the subscription rate is quite low, so people who do not subscribe should, and are just an annoyance to subscribers.
In defence of non-subscribers, I would suggest that because of their having to be subjected to advertizing, it helps to keep the subscription rate low for the people who do subscribe. Besides, non-subscribers are limited to 6 concurrent games, which is next to none compared to how many some subscribers have on the go.
Anyway, it's good to be here.
