James Akehk came to this country 5 years ago as a 19 year old boy with nothing but the clothes on his back. For years he and band of Sudanese children wandered Sudan enduring the hardships of murdered parents, starvation, and disease. His face was burned when he fell into a fire. When he came to this country he learned English, went to classes, and got up every morning at 5am to catch a bus to go to work. He eventually got a better job, got a GED, and a better place to live. He even bought a car while not even knowing how to drive one. We had some words over that!
Friday, Aug. 27, James was shot and later died following surgery. I will go to Louisville today to help comfort and support the other three boys that my family and I help sponsor when they came here. What a waste to have survived so much and come so far to have your life taken like this. I am so tired of the violence in this country.
Our church has a tradition of placing white crosses on the lawn of the church for every murder victim in the community. I hope Sunday to put one there for him.

Kirksey957 if you don't mind me asking this question; What was this shooting about? No matter what, it shouldn't have happened to a intelligent, hard working person such as him.
