I'm curious about what Russ does besides take care of this site? Is this is an actual job and he makes money from it or does he have a real job and this is just a hobby?

I think what he is doing is great but I have to question what his original intention was when he first started.

Having an interest in chess wouldn't one want to improve even if it is just a little bit? I thought he might have started this site to meet some people and play games and improve his chess but since it's so popular he doesn't have time for "Chess" and is busy just keeping this site running and possibly working a real job?

I'm sure Russ will take comfort in you noticing how crappy he is at chess.

Some things are better left unsaid, like when you blow your nose into a hanky and the snot squeezes through and onto your hands.

I'm pretty sure Russ is mostly doing just this now with the occasional side job so he can take his wife to a movie every once in a while. He announce he was going to be on for the most part full time.

He started it with Chris and I think some others.

I heard he was a sea-cowboy taken away by alians who turned him into a cyborg that helped save the universe.

Don't worry, he's back on Earth and is now the only sea-cowboy to ride a sea-horse with twin lazer cannons on it's sides.

I don't think so.

Not that Russ makes important money out of the site, but I still think it's something more than a side-job.

Let's guess that only 1'000 users (out of 13'000 rated ones) pay the subscription as it is now.

It makes about 30'000$ per year.

Take away 10'000$ per server maintenance or sudden change due to malfunctions and the remaining is 20'000

And I mantained low.

Not the average side job, and it's totally right that Russ and Chris make a little living out of the site, considering the huge amount of time and effort to create some entertainment for us chess geeks🙂

I was looking earlier to find the post, but I am pretty sure that he said he was doing it full time. I could be wrong though.

Advertising.... I think ravello only counted sub-money. So there is a little more... I know for sure he takes contract work also, and remember him trying to hitch a ride on the road in a post cuz ninjas stole his 2 cylinder car.

Do you think with all his troubles lately he is a full blown super hero now. I mean he seems to have collected an assortment of henchmen, and now seems to have a nemesis working to undo his tely and car.

Did you ever in your wildest dream think that you would end up with a career in henching phlab?

I seem to remember Russ saying he was giving up his daytime job to concentrate on RHP fulltime
