@divegeester saidfrom 1969 to 1992 I was employed as a floorlayer in and out of work according to the economy etc from 92 until September this year I owned my own flooring firm having to close it when having a heart attack.my last wage back in 92 was £22k whilst running my own firm I seldom earned that amount but did have a few perks.

@badradger saidYou were wise to start your own business in that trade; there was an influx of new people into fitting floorings in the late 1980s and early 1990s driven by high wages associated with specialist floorings such as real woods and bamboos etc. However the retail rescission of the 1900s saw an increase in consumers purchasing cheap diy snap and fit products from places like Texas home care and Homebase. This drove costs down and increased consolidation of expertise into small firms who hired them.
