Does something like this deserve the death penalty?
We ex-pats in Thailand are causing up-roar over this event.
The problem is that historically the Myanmars and Thais have always despised each other, warred and fought, and a Myanmar in Thailand is considered lower than a street dog.... as this event clearly illustrates.
The couple have gone into hiding, which is normal. What wasn't normal was that they were bailed, set free, after denying the charges - another norm in Thailand, treat your own first, and better.
The worst they can get for this offence is either a 200,000 baht fine and or 1 year imprisonment! (200,000 baht being 4,000 UK Pounds)
1 year imprisonment.
We have started a fb page, and hope it goes viral. If you would take the link and place it on your fb page, asking for people to share the link we may get somewhere with foreign press getting involved. We are already collecting money for her, and contacting burns units in the US and UK to see if they can get support to take on the rehabilitation of this poor child.
We would like the death penalty, but what comes first is dealing with the child's trauma, and her rehab - physically and psychiactrically.
What can be guaranteed is that the Thai Police will try to brush this event under the carpet, for obvious reasons, and the courts will be doing their best to keep it schtum, as the judges who offered bail don't look to good at this moment in time.
