What about the USB driver software for the connection to the iPod?
Did XP do it's usual Microshite impression and install it's own drivers instead of the ones you should have got from Apple?

Take it back and swap it for a zen mp3 player which is a much superior machine and wont break every 10 minutes. Speaking from bitter experience, ipods are an exercise in marketing selling style over substance.

What USB driver software. I got know USB driver software for connection to the ipod. Do i get that on the apple site?
