They look good, I'd ideally like something around 10GB, with voice recorder and if possible, something about the same dimensions as an iPod mini.
Any more tips?
I do hear a lot about iPods being naff, just trendy, which is the only reason they sell. My friends have iPods in the main but the ones with iRivers tend to be happier with the product.
Creative Zen is a new one on me but at the moment top of the list is a Cowon X5 20GB thingy.
Anybody know anything about them?
Thanks for all the advice.
Originally posted by asromacalcioI bought an iRiver HP120 (20G) about 2 years ago, because it came top in a computer magazine round up, beating the iPod. It's absolutely great, with a very useful voice recorder (very clear sound on the built-in mic with the option of plugging a mic in) and an FM radio, and drag-and-drop to add files. They also update the firmware periodically which you can download from their website, giving you extra features. I have used it nearly constantly for those two years and the battery shows no signs of giving up yet (it also lasts for a whole day between charges). I'm not sure how good the models they now sell are, they do seem to do well in comparisons but the iPod and Creative players tend to come top now.
I'm thinking of buying an MP3 player but can't decide whether iPod or iRiver would be best. Any tips?
Isn't there some kind of issue with iPods where you can't copy the music from them, only to them? I may be wrong, and I'm sure someone will put me straight. But I use my player for other files as I still have only managed to half fill it.
Originally posted by mosquitorespectYou can copy from them, but it messes up the filenames and doesn't retain the directory structure (relying on ID3 info to arrange the songs).

The biggest downer about them is the lack of ability to change the battery, unless you pay €60 odd extra for an external battery pack. Also, the battery only lasts a certain length of time, after which you have to send it to apple to change, at a cost.
I had an iRiver mp3 cd player in 2003, and it was great. I don't know anything about their more recent products though.

Absolutely crap.
I got one, and I had a nightmare trying to connect it to the pc, then the database kept corrupting. In the end, I had to get an Ipod. Mine isn't an isolated case, either.
