I've been a Maiden fan since grade school and enjoyed seeing them tour the states in the 80's and watched the tours get smaller and smaller to near non existent currently..in the states..Does anyone else out there miss Maiden? Are they perhaps on the rise again in the states? Thoughts? Discussion...

I don't deny the talent of many of the bands you mention..I'm a fan of many of them...and of oll sorts of music..however, some you mention are simply a part of rock n roll history..no longer creating new music..which i miss too..yet, iron maiden continues to put out new music an has an incredible following in other parts of the world...

Iron Maiden have among the most literary lyrics in popular music. Bruce Dickens (is he still with them?) has quite an intelligence on him.

yup bruce is still with them (thank god he came back - janick sucked 🙁 ) and he is a very clever guy.

i know they did a tour of the UK last year but I couldn't tell you about the US.

Great band though - seen them live a couple of years ago and they still rocked even though they are all about as old as my grandad.

It was Blaze Bailey that sang while bruce was away...Janick gers is still there, they have three guitarists now though as Adrian Smith rejoined also.

Huckleberryhound is correct.regarding the current band line-up..There was a very small..perhaps 6 city tour of the US in 2006..unfortunately, not near my city..

Bruce is bright...bassist Steve Harris writes many of the song with significant input from other members..

I can tell you that Bruce is (or at least was) in Israel. The article doesn't say if he's staying for the game!

Maiden's great, but it's hard to say BEST. Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, hell Hendrix had some good lyrics in him and he KNEW he couldn't sing

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son impressed me with the imaginative power of its lyrics at age thirteen, when I was reading a lot of fantasy books. A lot of other bands--Slayer, Sepultura, etc--were much heavier but the lyrics struck me as pretty dull. I can't say I listen to Iron Maiden much anymore, but the memories are fond.

Nowadays the only heavy stuff I have time for, apart from the occasional random sortie into black metal, is Motorhead. Lemmy Kilminster from Colwyn Bay...He's the liveliest dinosaur in town.

The Blue Oyster Cult also appeals to me, but I don't think they're heavy metal...

A literary link between Motorhead and the Blue Oyster cult is writer Michael Moorcock--he put Lemmy, his pal, in one of his novels, and wrote a few songs for the other. Thankfully I'm too young to have grown up to Hawkwind...

I don't have too much exposure to Maiden, so let me know of any other songs that have good lyrics or a driving riff. i'm pretty open to suggestions.
