i thought that song was always quite dumb, at least the rain and wedding part, i dont believe that rain on your wedding day is ironic in anyway, its just rain, and bad weather, nothing more.....

The Irony of the song was that nothing in the song described irony.

I don't know man. My buddy got married, he was 50 and he never had been hitched before. It was an outdoor wedding and the bride to be had been married 6 times before. As soon as the Wedding March began ,., the clouds rolled in and it turned dark.Thunder and lightning and wind and funnel clouds. It brought tears to my eyes it was so beautiful.

Agreed. Most of the things in the songs are not examples of irony. But you could change the "rain on your wedding day" into a scenario that I believe would qualify as irony. Say you lived in a very rainy area (Seattle?) and you were planning a wedding, but became so obsessed about the weather that you decided to move the wedding to Hawaii, flying all the guest there. Then if it rained on your wedding day in Hawaii while it was a sunny day in Seattle, I would count that as ironic.
