Say you lived in a very rainy area (Seattle?) and you were planning a wedding, but became so obsessed about the weather that you decided to move the wedding to Hawaii, flying all the guest there. Then if it rained on your wedding day in Hawaii while it was a sunny day in Seattle, I would count that as ironic.
