a comment that someone made earlier, that using a program in ANY
form is cheating, has got me thinking. A few times, when games ahve
been really close, I've programed in the possitions and set the game
to run, computer against computer.
I DON'T watch the moves
I DON'T look at the end position/what peices are left etc
I just look at the announcement as to which side has won.
But could the knowledge that I gain, that the computer thinks I'll win
or lose, be construed as cheating?
I am really an honest person, so you'll have to believe me that I don't
take any move advice from doing this, but if it's considered bad form
I'll stop immediatly.
Freak - who'll get in trouble if he doesn't stop posting so much
I personally don't think that is a big deal, but one could make the
argument that this knowlege will affect your play. You might play
differently thinking you have a winning (or losing) position than you
would otherwise. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, you probably
WOULD play differently with this knowlege. So it's probably best not
to do it. Any knowlege about a game that you couldn't have gotten
w/o the help of a computer is bound to affect your play to some
extent.
That being said...I wouldn't mind you doing it in a game against
me...just don't tell me what the computer said!🙂
