Some are succesful with it (Kylie) others not so (Robson & Jerome).
As for the direct point on Picasso, I guess he tried his best, and as such should be applauded for doing so.
Originally posted by rhbPicasso was a great artist, but like so many, he had a gigantic ego to match. Dali is another good example. Both were masters of shameless self promotion. It's not surprising that they used their names to sell anything and everything they could. I think it's coming back to bite them though. Some great works of art are now printed all over just about everything from trash cans to t-shirts. In my opinion, it makes them less special than something you've just seen for the very first time. It's kind of sad that I've seen Van Gough's Sunflowers on so many things that I'm now sick of it.

That whole cubism thing just doesn't do it for me.

I don't like Picasso.
I'm not really bothered whether he was an innovator, what his paintings had to say, etc.
Like any art, if I look and it and I like it then I think it's good. If not, I don't!
Perhaps I'm a philistine, but I saw some Vermeer's and Rembrandt's at the weekend, including Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Class, plus some Van Mieris and plenty others and they were amazing.
Dali I like, but not Picasso or Van Gogh.
