Musically, it was dead before it began, so I must agree with you on technical grounds. That being said, I believe there are still people who actively enjoy it. May you be protected from such "ravers".
I get so mixed up with all the music nowadays deep house acid trance hip hop break beat... what happened to the metal heads vs the people who liked westlife and such? Even the gothic genre has gone strange everyone is listening to ebm (which I like anyway) cyber goth and all.
So if you could give me a description of what techno and cross reference it with something that passes with techno today i`ll still be confused.
so no idea if techno lived or breathed and then died. But I like hard fast beats and gothic industrial...

I think Shansu has the handle on what techno is all about. Techno is as techno does. Including whistles, lollipops and, in some cases, adult diapers.
The goths did get a bit techno-ey. Then again they never did have any taste.
