Do you mean the C64?

Don't use Epson cartridges. They're chipped. They pretend they're empty when the ink level drops to around 10% or so. In other words, quite simply, Epson con you.

Use "Jet Tec" cartridges. They're cheaper, and get around this restriction to give you ALL the ink in the cartridge.

Reminds me of "I Hired a Contract Killer" by Aki Kaurismäki. In the beginning of the film, the central figure tries desparately to commit suicide. One of his attempts is to stick his head into the gas oven. After a while, during which nothing happens, he gets out again, and it turns out later that there was a gas strike just at that time. Great film, by the way! 🙂

Correct. In addition to this, large office supply stores carry their own brand of cartridge, which is cheaper and can be refilled.
