Janey,

My hope is that you will stay. Thank you for your kind words. I have enjoyed getting to know you and am sure you will get through this. Be positive and don't give up. You are not alone!

Oh, screw it. I tried to stay objective, but objectivity is for people who lack conviction, and frankly, I'm a little outraged at the moment. Why all the support for the person who made such an error in judgment, and none for the person who was hurt by it? What Janey did was not only a bad decision, it was also illegal! There are laws against such things! And people seem to want to brush it under the rug as if it had been a harmless mistake. It was not. People HAVE been harmed. I'm sorry if this seems like an attack-- it is not. But I was raised to believe that people who stand by and do nothing are cowards. This b.s. needs to stop NOW, or we can start rolling up the carpets and putting away the chairs, because this party will be over.

Tim,

I don't mean to excuse what Janey did, but I believe there is more to this than most know. I agree with your original post. If we would consider how others feel and put ourselves in their shoes it would solve a lot of problems. What is the reason for Janey doing what she did? No matter the reason, it doesn't excuse what happened but there could be more to this story. I'm glad she came out and admitted her wrong doing and I decided to be a little supportive because of her confession.

There is more to Janey than what we see in the posts above. I've gotten to know her a little recently and can understand her better than when I first read her posts.

Your thoughts and opinions are important to me also and I agree with a lot of what you say, but also feel there has to be more behind all of this. I too am a man of conviction and am not afraid to say what I feel and know is right.

Thank You,

Doug

Well said, Doug-- we are on the same page here, I think. I hope very sincerely that no one takes anything I say as a personal attack. And I would never claim to speak FOR anyone else-- I do not know Janey, just as there are many, many people here who don't know me, or only know me as the guy that always has to stick his nose into business that does not involve him directly. I am not judging her actions or pretending to know her motivations. All I want to see is a little peace and sense of cooperation here. As in any community, there will be disagreements, etc. But I think that as long as people who truly care about this site speak their minds, there is hope.

I also think it would be helpful if we could ALL (yes, I DO include myself in this statement) get a bit more realistic perspective on what exactly this place is. It is a place to play chess. Something that strikes US as being a BIG deal, like an accusation of cheating, is, in fact, completely meaningless to the rest of the world. There is a reason they call the world of the Internet "virtual reality." Something we would all do well to keep in mind.

I've said my piece here-- I will stay tuned, but unless I think I have something truly productive to say, I will follow my new mantra-- "Shut up and play chess!"

Tim,

I see your heart is in the right place and you really want what is best for this site as well as a peaceful place for all. I too stayed out of the Forums at one time because I got frustrated with some things that were happening. I'm thankful we can discuss these things in a calm matter. In fact, I don't mind when people disagree as long as they do so calmly. You've done that and I appreciate it.

I would say let's play a game, but I know you would destroy me. If you are ever interested, send a game my way. I enjoy playing and my records shows I don't mind losing. πŸ˜€

Take care,

Doug

I am sorry to see Julia get hurt by such a terrible thing and I am shocked that one person would break into another person's account and do such a thing. This site should be making people feel happier not angry or hurt. I see Christmas as a time when we change our focus from work or study to our families and other loved ones. Without them around we realize how lonely it can be. I hope we can give each other something nice for Christmas (and I'm not talking about presents here) not leave each other hurting.

I just want to make it clear, in case anyone has any doubt, that what the government of the United States chooses to do in terms of "foreign policy" is NOT a reflection of what the majority of Americans want. Sadly, the ideal of a government "by the people, for the people" has turned out to be a myth (as it has in many other countries). There are MANY Americans like myself who detest violence, and who do not believe that another innocent life should be lost. This country went insane after the attacks of 9/11, and it would appear that those who make the decisions have yet to regain their senses. And if the governments of other countries decide to throw their own troops into the fray, it simply indicates the same lack of evolvement as the US is demonstrating, or it indicates a sense of subservience to the "strong arm" of the US that should shame any country.

I may be a citizen of America, but such citizenship does not require me to pledge my allegiance to a war which is as evil as it is foolish.

Just my two cents.
Tim

Well I am getting to see this rather late it seems and really have no clue what this is all about.

But one little statement kinda weirds me out...the whole "debate with me to get noticed" thing.

Exactly what in the hell does that mean?

And just to let everyone know I will be making my triumphant return at the first of the year!! So if you wanna play me get prepared!

We in Detroit have always known that Boston was "out east" somewhere. But we never knew that you had your own philosophy.
