We've seen this theme in a couple of games in this championship and I for one is glad that this mentality isn't rewarded.
that is the cruelest elimination i have ever seen.
cassano gets the winner, but hang on the swedes have equalised 2-2 and italy are going home.
5 points and undefeated and going home - unlucky.

But just wait for the speculations about the result between Denmark and Sweden. 2-2 was always going to take both teams to the quarter finals regardless of what happened in the other game.
Originally posted by Zipdrive NightmareIndeed. There were many fans in the stadium who had written things like '2-2 Nordic Victory' on their flags. It was quite neatle prearranged with the last goal being scored only in the 89th minute.

but going to the scandinavians the benefit of the doubt after all it was the 89th min equaliser and it was 1-1 in the other game.

There is no way anyone will convince me that there was not a "fix" on in the Denmark v Sweden game. It was always giong to end 2-2, and all the bookmakers knew it. I was unable to put a bet on the correct score for ages, and when they finally opened the book again the odds were 9/2 for 2-2. They are normally at least 12/1. The English commentators who assured the veiwers that there was no fix have a vested interest in making people think that the game is honest. After all, who wants to watch a rigged game? Football has been shamed by two cheating sides.
Having had my rant, the people who run the game should have come up with a better format where this sort of thing could not happen.

If they had got 2-2 with 20 mins to go and then kicked around I might agree with you but they only had to hold the score for 1 min.

Originally posted by pidermanThat game was never a fix - did you not see some of the challenges flying in. Denmark should have got about four or five as well. Presuming Denmark and Sweden would prearrange a 2-2 draw to ensure they went through would be akin to Germany and England agreeing upon a draw beforehand. It would never happen, Sweden would rather see Denmark go out and vice versa!!! The Italians only have themselves to blame for playing such negative football

Originally posted by LivingLegendI loved that quote from Wim Van Hannegan (sp?) the Dutch Assistant Manager. When asked what he would do if Guus Hiddink tries to substitute Arjen Robben again, he replied "I'll hit him". Later on, when asked about the team looking quite down and depressed, he retorted "Well, I get depressed looking at you lot [the press]". Genius - reminds me of Gordon Strachan:
Even with a B-team, I'm pretty certain that the Czech team will be capable of getting at least a draw against the Germans. Plus, Holland is going to win the tournament, so we need to go the quarter finals... 😀
O.
Reporter: "Can we have a quick word please, Gordon?"
Strachan: "Velocity"
