that is the cruelest elimination i have ever seen.
cassano gets the winner, but hang on the swedes have equalised 2-2 and italy are going home.
5 points and undefeated and going home - unlucky.

Not just bad luck... bad tactics at the end of the game against Sweden at least. Italy owned the game and didn't give Sweden a chance in the first half, but withdrew and tried to hold on to a 1-0 lead in the second half and was punished in the end. We've seen this theme in a couple of games in this championship and I for one is glad that this mentality isn't rewarded.

But just wait for the speculations about the result between Denmark and Sweden. 2-2 was always going to take both teams to the quarter finals regardless of what happened in the other game.

Indeed. There were many fans in the stadium who had written things like '2-2 Nordic Victory' on their flags. It was quite neatle prearranged with the last goal being scored only in the 89th minute.

got to agree with u there Italy are boring to watch for sure.

but going to the scandinavians the benefit of the doubt after all it was the 89th min equaliser and it was 1-1 in the other game.

There is no way anyone will convince me that there was not a "fix" on in the Denmark v Sweden game. It was always giong to end 2-2, and all the bookmakers knew it. I was unable to put a bet on the correct score for ages, and when they finally opened the book again the odds were 9/2 for 2-2. They are normally at least 12/1. The English commentators who assured the veiwers that there was no fix have a vested interest in making people think that the game is honest. After all, who wants to watch a rigged game? Football has been shamed by two cheating sides.
Having had my rant, the people who run the game should have come up with a better format where this sort of thing could not happen.

I don't believe in this conspiracy theory. I'm sorry for Italy, but they deserved it. Putting own fortune in other's hands is bad idea.

For me the most "unjust" result so far is the elimination of Spain.

The last Swedish goal did not look like it was faked in any way.
If they had got 2-2 with 20 mins to go and then kicked around I might agree with you but they only had to hold the score for 1 min.

That's the brilliancy of it. It doesn't look that way. But Sørensen probably could have grabbed the ball, but he let it slip, allowing Jonson to score. Someone has given very carfeful instructions. It was a rig nonetheless.

You will be saying it is rigged tonight when Germany beat a sub-strength Czech side putting Holland out 😛

That game was never a fix - did you not see some of the challenges flying in. Denmark should have got about four or five as well. Presuming Denmark and Sweden would prearrange a 2-2 draw to ensure they went through would be akin to Germany and England agreeing upon a draw beforehand. It would never happen, Sweden would rather see Denmark go out and vice versa!!! The Italians only have themselves to blame for playing such negative football

Plus, if Del Piero could learn where the goal is then Italy would have a 100% record in the competition, and in all likelyhood would have won Euro 2000!! Maybe they need to clear out the dead wood (Del Piero, Totti, Panucci etc) before the next World Cup - replacements: Cassano, Pirlo etc.

Even with a B-team, I'm pretty certain that the Czech team will be capable of getting at least a draw against the Germans. Plus, Holland is going to win the tournament, so we need to go the quarter finals... 😀

I loved that quote from Wim Van Hannegan (sp?) the Dutch Assistant Manager. When asked what he would do if Guus Hiddink tries to substitute Arjen Robben again, he replied "I'll hit him". Later on, when asked about the team looking quite down and depressed, he retorted "Well, I get depressed looking at you lot [the press]". Genius - reminds me of Gordon Strachan:

Reporter: "Can we have a quick word please, Gordon?"
Strachan: "Velocity"
