Ivan is about to make land fall with record winds and storm surges my power will be out for 3-7 days but my town is supposed to flood so I am getting out now, for I am just north of panama city. wow this storm is strong. wish me luck

I wish you all the luck in the world, my friend! Hurricane Charley and Francis just weren't enough for Mother Nature; now she's gotta inflict more wrath on poor ol' Florida. 🙁 I think I figured it out though. Mother Nature is obviously on her period and what do most girls do when they get their periods? They take it out on men! And what does the state of Florida just happened to shaped like?... Well, you get the idea! 😉

A few years ago (don't remember the exact year) they had to do the "politically correct" thing and alternate male and female names. Prior to that they were all given female names.

The change to alternating names was in 1979. From 1953 to 1978 they used just female names and prior to '53 they used the US phonetic alphabet (Able, Baker, etc)

This years list (for Atlantic storms) is: Alex Bonnie Charley Danielle Earl Frances Gaston Hermine Ivan Jeanne Karl Lisa Matthew Nicole Otto Paula Richard Shary Tomas Virginie Walter. It will be 2010's list as well.
