This isnt strictly an English question in keeping with the thead idea, however it would intrest me to know why and when "American English" started to drop letters from words such as colour.

Kirk,
Are you picking on me?😉
I guess that to me, proper English is a second language. Mostly, I use the "F" word for almost every word in my sentences in my daily life at work.

OK, folks, here is one of the big mistakes I hear all the time with the spoken language. Verbs that do not agree with the noun. Few things drive me crazier than this problem. Let me list some examples of what I have heard this week.
I seen him yesterday.
He had went with them.
She goed to the store with momma.
I wudn't gonna do it.
This kind of usage is a sure way to be seen as stupid. It is a killer in a job interview. Please make sure that you conjugate the verb correctly so that it agrees with the noun.
Does anyone else have some examples of poor usage?

As promised I will start a thread to hopefully improve the grammar and language skills of users of the site. Many of you become frustrated with issues ranging from poor spelling to sentences which make absolutely no sense. I sympathize and am here to help. As always, the Ivory Tower invites all to participate with ideas and questions.
Please note th ...[text shortened]... part to help others communicate the written language more effectively. Let the learnin' begin.

First of all, he did not begin his sentence with a capital letter. Secondly, he misspelled grammar. And finally, he calls me a "stupid browneye" but does not use a comma in the proper place indicating the "noun of address." I am glad he showed up so as to teach us how not to do it.
Damn, these Texans! 🙂
