I keep reading that Jack White is an incredible guitar player. Although I apprciate his recklessness as a player, I see him as being on paar with Pete Townsend as an axe-man.

Are there any guitarists, bassists, drummers or keyboardists in rock under the age of 30 who stand out today? I never hear of any.

Is rock dead?

I don't think it's dead, but it's much harder to stand out now. So much has already been done and originality has become a rare attribute.

Rock isn't dead, just the music industry that invented the cliche.

Biggest load of baloney I've read in a long time.

Right now, music is being made that is incredibly original and challenging. The majority of people just never hear it because they don't seek it out.

Bands like Deerhoof, Animal Collective, Ex-Models, Lightning Bolt, Wolf Eyes, and so many more rival the likes of The Fall and The Residents for sheer originality.

Much as Darvlay will vomit at the prospect, Tori Amos is an incredible pianist.

I would also say the two guys from Dragonforce are pretty good at guitar. And good call on the Deerhoof.

In fact a lot of the power metal bands have above average, to well above average guitar players.

And to the original poster, Just cause these people aren't on MTV or VH1 or Fuse, doesn't mean that they are not out there.

Or there is that one kid from some where in Asia that does that classical piece on guitar.... I'm sure if you searched YouTube, you could find it.

I could list off a bunch of popstars and faggoty MTV bands but then I would just be lying.

I wouldn't know them either though, so I'd probably make the same comment...

However, since you're online, do you know any acoustic bands of late which are worth downloading? I need some new music.

And sorely mistaken, and mislead, and various other adjectives that I wouldn't be alowed to say here.

Best guitar player I've ever seen was my best friend Danny.
After six months playing he could listen to a Hendrix song once or twice and just repeat it on guitar.

In his twenties he was absolutely amazing. He packed it all in to go surfing.
