Am assuming you're joking about the bear. Large caliber firearm is about all that works.
And even a large caliber say .338 or bigger is risky business at close quarters. A round or two will kill it eventually if placed properly. The key word is eventually. Its still likely that it will kill you before it dies. Or you could get lucky and it will run away after the first round.

Odds are, you are just going to piss it off and it will be on you before you can get another shot off. Especially if there are cubs involved. I only have a .38 and that would not do much to a bear, especially since I'm a poor shot.

There are a lot of wolves here, but they don't come after you like that, unless they are really hungry. They generally just walk away.

yesterday the newspaper said that a 59-year-old salesman got stuck on the same road in 1995. he stayed in his vehicle marking off the days for 9 and a half weeks, and two teenagers found him the next spring, dead of starvation.

also, that the road is only be used to service a lodge up there, and that it had a locked gate, but someone cut the chain sometime in the few weeks before the Kims went up there.

weeks? That's a long time to wait.

he was 59 ... he might not have had another option.

i guess he should have tried to build a signal fire. assuming he wasn't above the tree line and could get wood.

There is wood up there, but it would be very wet in the winter and tough to light. Burning the tires was a good idea.

Assuming someone is even looking for you. 😕

Would someone care to alert the moderators about this spam head?

Whoops. Already done. That was quick.

It does look shorter on the map, because it's not accounting for the switch backs. It also shows that it should be paved, but it is not.

I can understand why they tried to take it through.

Very sad!

shake all the snow off a tree and sweep it out from under the tree, and burn the tires UNDER it ...

Personally, I think the solution is to stay in the city...far from the wilderness. Buildings are so cozy.
