How does one get a job in the UK when one is an American?

Difficult to get a job in another country if your still in your country, unless of course your present company can transfer you......... you can at least start putting the feelers out and try and get some contact points or intreviews lined up for when you arrive, but most of the time I'm afraid the hard work starts when you arrive in the country. Also depends what you want to do, eg just work to get enough money to travel or to progress your career...... plenty of jobs for travellers etc but less if your going to be specific on company, area, pay etc.

Its a scary thing sometimes but the best when it all comes together, prepare yourself for the worst and go for it!! It shouldn't be too bad for ya darling at least you have 1 friendly face in england already.

Good luck....... oooo and get a visa!

One way might be through career websites like www.vault.com.
"Vault" has more of a financial/legal focus - I am not sure what industry you are interested in but the site has some diversity. There may be others with a more international presence and cover more industries. Also, doing a "google" search for "jobs in england" etc. might help. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

Check out the Horse riding schools in Wales. They might give you a job 😉

In theory (according to friends of mine who work for "Work Permits UK" i.e. the government), you cannot get a job doing something if there is a British person that could do that job.
In practical terms this means that only highly qualified jobs are given permits.
Actually, if there is a shortage in a certain job, you may be able to come across.
Just don't expect to be able to get a job in McDonalds or whatever.
If you teach (do I remember correctly that you teach?) you stand a good chance because nobody wants to do that and there is a big shortage.

How does one get a job anywhere?

You're educated (even if it is at an American institution) and you seem to have some kind of ambition. What else do you need? Just go out and find one, silly goose.

getting a work permit to work in a foreign country is the major issue.

Well, don't you get a 2 year work visa to start? That should be more than enough time for her to realize her mistakes in moving to the UK to live with some guy she met on the internet.

just google in "overseas jobs" there are a bunch of agencies with
job offers for you to peruse. I got jobs in Thailand, Andros Island
and Israel, almost ten years worth, if I hadn't gotten married and
settled down I would be maybe in Antarctica or something.
Just try to match your skills with the job requirements. Some of them
require a foreign language skills, like Portuguese in Brazil, etc.
Some don't. I barely speak english but I managed ok. Good luck. Don.

Enroll at college on a part time course.

You can then work 22 hours a week in term time and full time in the holidays.

That is the easiest way to get into the UK work place.

When you've got a job you like, persuade your boss to write to the Home Office claiming he couldn't find an EU citizen to do that role.
