You sound 'blue', because you are not enjoying the game at present perhaps because your expectations are higher than your results. People believe that chess has something innate, some kind of beauty, others that it can even rehabilitate. Personally I think its empty and devoid and the only inherent value it has is the ideas which we infuse it with when we animate the pieces with our minds. I hope you can find a way to enjoy it again and that it brings you a measure of pleasure, otherwise, yes, at our level, it becomes a waste of time.

My chess is very bad as my rating indicates...I will admit that I enjoy the chat along with the play, but not everyone chats...

Every time I play chess...or do anything else, for that matter...I learn something...

In the learning, my time is never wasted.

Online correspondence chess site ratings aren't necessarily the issue. Some children play chess as a war game using wooden Staunton Chess Figures in lieu of plastic soldiers; some teenagers play chess in school clubs to be with their friends in team competition; some adults play chess as recreation, some with passion for move volume or ratings. Chess welcomes us all. My own motive nowadays is to make and stay in touch with friends around the globe, thanks to In Game Messaging. Thanks,
