...are the top players here at RHP? ELOs in the region of 2200?
National standard? International standard?!

I suppose though that 2200 or whatever is for OTB play and RHP is a
correspondence chess site so perhaps it's hard to tell.

Anyway, just wondering...

What does a FIDE of 2245 equate to? Does that make you a national master, international master,
etc?

Just curious, as I have no idea about these things...

I don't know. Certainly not an international master! To reach that
you've got to have at least a rating of FIDE 2400.
Maybe a US-player can answer this.

A master rating is about 2200 USCF ELO. Or somewhere around 2150
FIDE ELO. Somewhere I will probably never be. *sigh* Oh well, I'm still
having fun!

What is the difference between USCF ELO and FIDE ELO? More to the
point, why is there a difference? Why not just have some kind
of standard rating system?

I should probably have said International Master, which is a step
above National Master. I don't know why there is a difference, though.

As a rough guide, here are a few FIDE Elo benchmarks:-

2000 = Candidate Master
2200 = National Master
2300 = FIDE Master
2400 = International Master
2500 = International Grandmaster
2600 = Super Grandmaster
2700 = Elite player - eg Ivanchuk, Shirov, Short
2800 = World Champion - eg Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand, etc. etc πŸ™‚

Thanks for posting that David. Do women and juniors use the same
rating system? Is a woman (or a junior) rated 2400 for example the
same standard (in theory) as a man of the same rating?

David, thanks! I'm thinking I'll be a candidate master in... 2 years. By
the way, what is your rating? πŸ™‚
