Originally posted by sonhouse'Withnail and I' is the story of two out of work actors in London in the 70s, played by Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann. It follows their drug, alcohol addictions, poverty and general attempt to get whatever they can for free whilst being as hedonistic as possible. Of course it all backfires on them and things go horribly wrong. Eventually 'I' gets a job and leaves and they both basically sober up, one to the hope of a new life and the other to the resignedness of his existence. It is a great film, with a lot of personal experiences in it for me. I did almost exactly the same thing when I was at college and I remember those feelings perfectly. The last scene tends to make me cry if I'm on my own.
Tell me about this 'withnail & I', recent? I gather you must have it
on DVD or wouldn't have watched it so much, but you got my
curiosity up. I never heard of it, but I am just a dumb american.
Is it in english or subtitles?
Kate Bush I know from Wuthering heights with that strange video
with whats his name, and Babushka, she was startlingly beautiful in
that video. Haven't followed her since.

That's the sad thing about the ending - he outgrows Withnail and has to leave him behind. In the final scene Withnail is swigging from a bottle of wine.
