🙂 That may be true. Especially with people whom I don't know anything about - they may be authentic, they may be fake, who knows. I just know one person for absolute sure - Kewpie. I have met her long enough to know that she is a real person, nothing fake about her. Other than her, most is hope, trust and guesswork. I have met people here who I hope are real. So no reason for disputes. 🙂

Many years ago I met with Fabian Fnas, he left this site long ago. He played at the same chess club in Gothenburg as my grandchild. So Fabian Fnas was real too.

I believe most people are a bit different if you met them then they are on here with very few exceptions.

I don't know what information you share is all that important unless of course it is your Real name and last name and where you live. Other than that any information is coming for an anonymous person. It may be true or not, given what I've seen on here in the past going on 20 years now.

Like any “friendships” it takes time to feel out a person. After a time you get a sense about whether or not that person is really a friend and how much of you, you want to divulge and like in real life there are, sometimes, “mistakes” made.

I've known people for 40 years who I thought I knew and found out they did something I never thought they would do. So at the end of the day we only know what the person wants to tell us, even out in the real world.
