While Montgomery bashing continues to exert appeal in certain circles, the usual
criticism is that he was overly cautious. Churchill badgered him to launch an
attack against Rommel, but Montgomery demured until he had built up an
overwhelming numerical superiority; hardly the typical response of someone who
has overestimated their position. Patton was hardly immune to overestimating his
own position, as was demonstrated during the disastrous Hammelburg raid.
Thanks Dave, I appreciate that and look forward to playing you again
in the near future. As far as Erwin says " Always declines his
invitations", makes me wonder how many nicks the man has, as I
only declined him once, not more than that as his sentence
implies..hmmmmm. I was hoping not to get into the "limelight" and
get caught up into a pissing contest here, as I enjoy playing chess
and could do without the bickering and bantering. For the record I
played xenophobe twice (both a draw) and some of the other top
rated players here. I also enjoy "coaching" some of the lesser rated
players so that they will have a better understanding of the complex
game of chess. Ask Geniejml should you care to look into that. I could
go on, but I am asking myself why am I even bothering to respond.
Paul
I know you have coached Jason...I have as well...and he is gotten alot
better due to our efforts. As for declining games...doesn't everyone
have that right? I have had to turn down alot...due to too many harsh
games going. But I will always try and explain why.
So forget these other comments...you have the limelight whether
anyone else sees it or not...I do...and maybe that is not enough...but
I know that you are not only one of the best players here..but a very
nice person as well. And anyone that can take xeno to a draw..not
once..but TWICE! ...commands respect.
I am honored to know you...and have had the chance to play you.
Once again congrats on the 1800 mark and rising to number 3.
Dave
