Well just as the aussies were getting comfortable with test record after test record little old Lara drops in and caresses his way to the highest individual test innings surpassing Hayden's mighty innings against Zimbabwe. What I find amusing is Lara has now scored two triple centuries - against the same opposition at the same ground. Another little irony is that Don Bradman - one of the greatest cricketers - also scored two triple centuries - again both at the same ground (Headingly). Not that I'm making any comparisons between the two. But after the way Harmison has crushed the west Indies in the first three tests I am glad that West Indes have rediscovered some of their form for the one day series on England - Which of course my New Zealanders will take out!!!!!!!! Fingers crossed 😛

So are NZ. We've just had a very positive series against South Africa where we took out the one dayers and drew the test series. I've always felt we have a strong test side but in the one dayers I'm always holding my breath! But with Chris Cairns retiring - we'll give you english a good run in the tests - my pick is we'll win the test series - though that may be a bit biased 😀 But I don't think we'll do that well in the one dayers!

Yeh, with England we're quite the same, will be an interesting one for sure. My pick is England and yes i am being biased 🙂

...and Brian scores 400 against you?
Don't wanna see England if they're not at their best.

When he's good he's very very good when he's bad he'sawful - don't really rate Lara as a captain mind.

Here is some detail for people that want it.

And for my fellow yanks these forriegners are talking about cricket. And specifically about one Batter's accomplishment in one game. Getting 400 runs.

There isn't really an analogy in baseball, but maybe in basketball you could say getting 400 runs in cricket is the same as scoring 70 points in an NBA game or maybe 80 or maybe 100 seeing as its been done once and so has that (Wilt). So this is kinda a big accomplishement.

Understatement....

There is no american sport equivalent for this accomplishment, actually not any other sport achievement equivalent.
He had to concentrate for just over 2 days in the blistering sun, facing some (arguable) quality bowling.

Brilliant.

Unfortunately for the Windies, if England can hold out for 90 overs today, the Test could be a draw, and Lara's decision to go for the big knock could have been a bad one!

with the series lost already i am surprised he did stay out there to see if he could make 500, i would have. 3-0, 3-1, 4-0 is all the same to me - the series was lost, scoreline matters not. if the series was hanging in the balance he would have declared on 313 at the close of day 2.

as for the 400* - amazing, pressure or not - All hail Brian Charles

the NZ - England series should be a good and 4 me way to close to call. NZ have some quality in both departments but so do england, i think the series will decided with the bat (jimmy anderson may make me eat my words). the tall english attack will not have the same effect with less bounce. stick my neck out and going to go with a Kiwi victory

I think it affects the points for the purposes of international rankings.

i would have batted out the day either way, if he really wanted the win he would have declared end if day2 or lunch day3, but he did not so y then declare once he has 400.

either way it was a magnificent innings and i am glad i got see a fair bit of it (cheers sky).

well it looks like it is petering out into a draw at 241 for 1.
my verdict
if u want to win
declare end of day 2
else
bat until brian charles is dismissed
